Horror and Thriller Movie Scores

I was looking around, trying to find samples of horror film scores that may be interesting to explore further. This is mainly because I’m to compose some music for a Boy’s and Girl’s Club Halloween Haunted Hallway for my fiance. I stumbled along this site and thought I’d share: The Terror Trap: Murderous medleys, Supernatural Suites

I was particularly drawn to the soundtrack to the film Altered States by composer John Corigliano. Had to add it to my Netflix for some near-Halloween viewing…

The Three Musketeers

Currently composing the music for the theatrical performance of The Three Musketeers by the Duluth Playhouse. Going rather cinematic, but with a touch of 17th Century harmonies and sounds… Should be fun!

Those Tempo Modulations Get Me…

I recently discovered Tim Exile through Warp Records YouTube Channel, and I must say that any song that integrates a clever tempo modulation seems to catch my attention. I mean, really catches my attention – maybe it’s the music nerd in me? I’m not sure, but in any case, I’ve been listening to Family Galaxy by Tim Exile over and over – I’m not even sure if there’s much I like other than the tempo modulations… In any case, thought I’d share.

Here it is: Tim Exile “Family Galaxy”

Homegrown Music Video Festival 2009

My fiance Christine Latvala and myself both created videos for the 2009 Homegrown Music Video Festival in Duluth, MN. The filmmakers who participated in the festival drew songs from previous Homegrown compilation CDs out of a hat and had to create a music video over the weekend.

My film: The Keep Aways “Rivalry”

Silent Night Remix 2008

Just for the holidays, here’s a free mp3: Stille Nacht! Heilige Nacht! Remix 2008 (3.2mb mp3 file)

It is more closely based on the original melody by Franz Xaver Gruber, composed in 1818 and based on the text written by Rev. Joseph Mohr in 1816. Of course, this version is considerably more modern in arrangement and sound (more of a sound sculpture imitating the melodies). Enjoy!

I need to figure out what I’m going to do about the abandoned Sonic Sculptures 2008
