Beginning with the first week of 2008, I will be composing a series of electronic sound sculptures, one composed for approximately every week of the entire year and uploaded to be listened to for free. The first week of 2008 is quickly approaching, so I thought I would explain my ideas behind this. Part of this is experimental, but not so much musically. By composing a short electronic sound scultpure each week and because of the intuitive, improvisatory nature of composing such music, a unique pattern of works directly reflecting my sound world at the time will be layed out over the course of a year. I think it could be interesting to note differences between works and the reason behind such differences as the year goes on. For example, what differences would there be in works that are written shortly after some kind of major event, either personally or internationally?
To be perfectly honest though, the initial idea in this was to force myself to consistently write and explore further electronic music textures and techniques. Either way, it should be interesting, and will certainly add considerable new content to this site throughout the year. Be sure to check back and comment on the project’s progress. It should be of unique interest in particular to enthusiasts of avant-garde or experimental music as well as composers of contemporary music, electronic or not.
This will also serve another purpose of being a type of teaching tool. I intend on explaining my techniques, source sounds and ideas for each work. I imagine they will average anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes, depending on how much time I have that week and the nature of the work. Again, comments would be appreciated as I begin posting these mp3s!

I had a wonderful time last night in St. Paul at Studio Z, where the ensemble Zeitgeist performed six works by local composers. I was honored to have my work Three Tunes selected by Zeitgeist for performance, and had an opportunity to join them as they rehearsed the piece. They did a fantastic job! Here was the line-up for the concert last night, as well as future Salons by the American Composers Forum and Zeitgeist: Tuesday Salon. Thank you so much to the members of Zeitgeist for the wonderful performance and the great opportunity! Also, I really thought the other works at the Salon were very enjoyable! Here’s some more information on Zeitgeist from New Albion: New Albion Artist Zeitgeist
Also, I do have a very unique composition/event planned for the entire year of 2008. It will be a series of sound sculptures, one composed for approximately every week of the entire year and uploaded to be listened to for free. This will result in the experimental electronic music work that I plan on calling 2008: 53 Sonic Sculptures. I will post some more information on this as it develops, so certainly keep checking back! I’ll be posting the first sound sculpture probably near January 1st.

I’m currently working on a new music video project, but for one of the first times for me, the music for the project is not composed by me. It is by drill’n'bass artist Dysphemic, from Australia. Check out his sweet tunes and look forward to a nice, glitchy video to go along with one of them!
He has some songs here as well: http://www.myspace.com/dysphemic
